Council permits
ACT Government (City Services): Public unleased land permit. Using public land in a way that affects other people's use of it needs a permit under the Public Unleased Land Act, and ACT guidance lists scaffolding and hoarding among works that may need one. Check with Access Canberra which permit applies to your job; assessment can take up to 28 days.
Suburbs outside the city centre may be in a different council area. Your scaffolder will often apply for you, so check who is arranging it before the job starts. ACT Government (City Services)'s permit page(checked November 2026).
