Council permits
City of Newcastle: Hoarding application. A hoarding that encloses a footpath or part of a road next to a building site needs approval, and council suggests lodging at least six weeks before it goes up. Closing a footpath or road, or using parking spaces, needs a separate road occupancy licence.
Suburbs outside the city centre may be in a different council area. Your scaffolder will often apply for you, so check who is arranging it before the job starts. City of Newcastle's permit page(checked November 2026).
